I like your strategy. I recently did a Twitter/WWW/RSS integration project and build a little mock infrastructure that got started and stopped at every run. (I'll release this soon, hopefully.) This meant I was as confident about a production deploy being successful as I was that my mock Twitter mimicked the live one exactly. But I don't think my dependency setup was as elegant as your Rosetta Queue; I could not run the full app in one process by reconfiguring a single adapter point. We should discuss it some time though!

Nice approach, thanks for the write-up!

Just a note for any other readers playing with that, as of Cucumber 0.3, you have to extend the World object like this:

World(MessagingHelpers)

as the pass-a-proc method is deprecated.

Thanks for the great tutorial(s)! I haven't been developing with Ruby/Rails very long and one of my first tasks was at my new workplace was to do some testing using Cucumber/RSpec. After diving headlong into the RSpec book and using your site I was able to get some solid work done in no time. It's good to have help from someone else living in Utah! ;)
